Participation:

Educator Responsibilities:

Educators interested in participating in the data collection and analysis for the success of this project in his/her school will have access to the documents to collect data.  Keep track of the students from your school on the spread sheet provided in the Reading Community sidebar link called Important Documents at the following address: http://marktwainreaders.pbwiki.com/Important+Documents

The universal password, bsreaders is required for all participants to be able to enter information on the site.  Each school will be provided a special identification number in order to decipher between students and educators signing in from neighboring schools.  This will provide ease in tracking students from your own school as opposed to all schools.  However you will be able to compare your student’s participation with the neighboring schools.  Contact me at kclark@bssd to receive your schools identification number.   Participants will use first name and assigned id number provided by the host of this web page at the end of each post.

Student Responsibilities:

Students participating in this project will utilize this web site as an ongoing resource.  Students will mentor each other by providing constructive reviews and comments on books read from the current Missouri State Awards for Mark Twain, and the local KC3 nominees for 3rd graders to participate in.  Students need to make posts that may express opinions or ask questions regarding books, however keeping in mind at all times that not all participants have read each and every book and will be reading posts as a means to locate his/her next book to read, so NEVER give away the ending of a book, or critical information that may spoil the desire, or need to select a particular title.  Compare this to rule of thumb to that of going to the movie and your friend tells you what happens at the end.

An active participant of this project will be one that we will see often in this Readers Community wiki.  An active participant is one that reads and reviews nominated books in addition to asking questions about other books to obtain an educated rational for reading a specific book.  In order to sign in to the wiki and make posts you will need a password, this will be provided by your library media specialist or classroom teacher.  At the end of each post type your first name and your school code also provided by your teacher, this might look something like this, kathy123.  Only students who have completed and returned the parental permission slip will receive a password.  A password is required in order to become an active participant.
